Death

Is death the end, or is there hope of another life where we can see our loved ones again? Here are some answers.

Jesus was resurrected and lived again. You can go to our Bible quiz page to see how much you know about Jesus.

The Sting of Death – My Recent Experience

Recently, someone very close to me passed through the veil of death. This person was old and was suffering from the pains of this life. I thought I would have feelings of happiness as this person "moved on to a better place." As it turned out, I felt very sad and shed tears as I mourned the loss of this person to death.

There is a scripture that says, "Thou shalt live together in love, insomuch that thou shalt weep for the loss of them that die" (Doctrine and Covenants 42:45). The morning this person died, I decided I should take some time off work to deal with the pain of death and loss. It was a cleansing experience as I took time to mourn and think of the wonderful times I spent with this person and shed tears for the loss of this person. I am truly thankful this person was part of my life, and I know I will be able to see her again someday through God's plan.

A few weeks before the death of this person, a medical aid came to help as this person's health was declining. The aid was not religious, but had worked with dying people for many years. She shared her thoughs with my family about death. Even though she did not attend a church, she said that there was something spiritual about the process of death and dying.

Can we be Together with Loved Ones again after Death?

A scripture in the Bible (1 Corinthians 11:11) states:

"Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord."

Sadly, that is about all the Bible says on the topic. How sad would it be if we couldn't be with all of our loved ones in the next life.

We Can Be With Families after Death in the Next Life

There is hope that families can be together forever if we follow the Lord's plan.

If families are sealed together by the power of the priesthood, they can live together forever if they try to live the best lives they can. They don't have to be perfect, but they have to repent when they do things wrong and try to live better lives.

As we continue talking about families being "sealed" together, it is important to understand what exactly that means. There is a reference to this in the Bible where Jesus is with Peter, James, and John on the Mount of Transfiguration. It reads:

"And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven" (Matthew 16:19).

The power of the priesthood to bind on earth and have it then bound in heaven refers to the binding or sealing of families together. That power is on the earth again today. This means that if husbands and wives are married by the power of the priesthood in the proper manner, they can be together eternally with their children as long as they repent and try to continuously improve.
