The Bible is the word of God given to the people and prophets in regions around Jerusalem. The Bible starts with the creation of man and woman (Adam and Eve) and teaches us about God's prophets on earth. One of the most important parts of the Bible is the ministry and teachings of Jesus. In the Bible, we learn about the birth, life, teachings and crucifixion of Jesus, and how He died for our sins making it possible for us to repent and return to live with God again after this life.
The Book of Mormon is a history of the word of God given to the inhabitants and prophets of the Americas. The first prophet in the Americas left from Jerusalem with his family around 600 BC. They crossed the ocean in a ship and started a civilization in the Americas. The Book of Mormon talks about all of the teachings of the prophets in the Americas. The most important part of the Book of Mormon is when Jesus Christ, after his death and resurrection in Jerusalem, came to visit the inhabitants of the Americas and teach them His gospel. Centuries after the close of the Book of Mormon, the ancient Aztecs held the legend of Quetzalcoatl, the great bearded white God who would return to visit them again someday. (They mistakenly thought Hernan Cortez was Quetzalcoatl and submitted themselves to him.)
