Certain things like technology, trends and fashions change and evolve. Other things, like scientific laws, once proven do not change. They will still produce the same result now or a thousand years from now… so, what about the Sabbath day?
Values and standards from God, like proven scientific laws, stand the test of time. God is unchangeable and so are His commandments. God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses around three thousand years ago and they are still in force. The commandments are a shelter that keep us free from guilt and remorse. The fourth commandment, "Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy" (Exodus 20:8) is a commandment that was made for man. Jesus said in Mark 2:27, "The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath". As we keep the Sabbath Day holy, it permits us to rest from our labors, turn to God and recharge our lives as we remember the meaning of life.
The Sabbath reminds us of our need for spiritual nourishment, of the importance of obedience to God and our need to worship Him. As we obey Him, He promises to bless us. When nations forget the Sabbath day, God's blessings upon them are diminished, and the righteous foundations of our society are affected. (See Nehemiah 13:15-18 and Jeremiah 17:21-27.)
