Prayers of Prosperity

Will God Answer our Prayers for Prosperity?

God is our father and wants to be happy and enjoy the blessings of life. If we are doing our best to live a good life and keep the commandments of God, he will be more likely to bless us with the things that are good for us. If we want prosperity for the wrong reasons, however, God probably will not bless us with prosperity.

We learn more about God the Father through prayer, which is taught about in the Bible, go to our Bible quiz page to test your knowledge about the Bible.

What are the Right Reasons to Pray for Prosperity?

In the scriptures, the Lord said, "But before ye seek for riches, seek ye for the kingdom of God. And after ye have obtained a hope in Christ ye shall obtain riches, if ye seek them; and ye will seek them for the intent to do good-to clothe the naked, and to feed the hungry, and to liberate the captive, and administer relief to the sick and the afflicted" (Jacob 2:18-19).

As it says in that scripture, if our prayers for prosperity are for the intent to do good and help others, and if we have first obtained a hope in Christ, we will receive them.

What We Should Say in Prayers for Prosperity

Because God is our Father, he likes us to pray to Him from our hearts and not use the same repeated prayer over and over again. Just like our earthly father wouldn't like us to say the same exact thing to him every day over and over again.

With that in mind, here is an example of what we should pray for. Our prayers and wording should be different from the exact wording below. Click here to learn how to pray.

Here is an example from the scriptures:

(Alma 34:20-28)

"20. Cry unto him when ye are in your fields, yea, over all your flocks."

This means that we should pray to God about helping us in our work or on the job. We may say something like, "Please bless me at work". If we pray at work, our prayers may be silent prayers, so you are not praying "on display".

"21. Cry unto him in your houses, yea, over all your household, both morning, mid-day, and evening."

We should remember the importance of praying for our families while we are away from them. We may say something like "please bless my family as I'm away from them."

"24. Cry unto him over the crops of your fields, that ye may prosper in them."

We should pray that we can prosper in our job, or that our company can prosper. For example, we could say something like, "Father, please bless me in my job that I can prosper".

"25. Cry over the flocks of your fields, that they may increase."

The Most Important Part of Our Prayers for Prosperity

"28. And now behold, my beloved brethren, I say unto you, do not suppose that this is all; for after ye have done all these things, if ye turn away the needy, and the naked, and visit not the sick and afflicted, and impart of your substance, if ye have, to those who stand in need-I say unto you, if ye do not any of these things, behold, your prayer is vain, and availeth you nothing, and ye are as hypocrites who do deny the faith."

As stated at the first of this article, if we pray for prosperity, we need to then think of others and use our money to help the poor and needy. If we do that, God will answer our prayers and be likely to bless us with prosperity—if we first have a hope in Christ.
