In Jacob 4:6 we read, "Wherefore, we search the prophets, and we have many revelations and the spirit of prophecy; and having all these witnesses we obtain a hope, and our faith becometh unshaken, insomuch that we truly can command in the name of Jesus and the very trees obey us, or the mountains, or the waves of the sea."
The scripture above comes from the Book of Mormon. Order a free copy of the Book of Mormon below:
Helaman 3:35 (also in the Book of Mormon) states, "Nevertheless they did fast and pray oft, and did wax stronger and stronger in their humility, and firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ...."
Another way to gain faith is by hearing the word of God. Romans 10:17 states, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
The first example of mountain moving faith is found in Ether 12:30 (from the Book of Mormon) "For the brother of Jared said unto the mountain Zerin, Remove–and it was removed. And if he had not had faith it would not have moved; wherefore thou workest after men have faith."
The next example of mountain-moving faith was the prophet Enoch. When he was young, the Lord gave him the command to tell his people to repent. Moses 6:27
"And he heard a voice from heaven, saying: Enoch, my son, prophesy unto this people, and say unto them-Repent, for thus saith the Lord: I am angry with this people, and my fierce anger is kindled against them; for their hearts have waxed hard, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes cannot see afar off;"
Then, a few verses later, Enoch humbles himself before the Lord and basically asks, "Why me?" (Moses 6:31)
"Why is it that I have found favor in thy sight, and am but a lad, and all the people hate me; for I am slow of speech; wherefore am I thy servant?"
Later, Enoch developed faith strong enough to move mountains Moses 7:13
"And so great was the faith of Enoch that he led the people of God, and their enemies came to battle against them; and he spake the word of the Lord, and the earth trembled, and the mountains fled, even according to his command; and the rivers of water were turned out of their course; and the roar of the lions was heard out of the wilderness; and all nations feared greatly, so powerful was the word of Enoch, and so great was the power of the language which God had given him."
One more example of the power of faith to move mountains was when Jesus was talking to the apostles in the New Testament and said:
"If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." Matthew 17:20
