Go and Sin No More

Scripture: John 8:2-11

Early one morning, after going into the Mount of Olives, Jesus came to the temple and started to teach the people. As he was teaching, the Scribes and Pharisees brought a woman to Him and said, “Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act” (John 8:4). Then they said to Jesus, “Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?” (John 8:5) They were trying to catch Jesus in a trap and find some sort of slip up that they could use against Him later.

Jesus, the Son of God, demonstrated His divine Sonship in the answer He gave, but first, He paused for a moment to draw on the ground. The Pharisees and Scribes then asked Him again, “What sayest thou”? Jesus stood up and gave this timeless answer, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” After He said that, the woman’s accusers left.

More about this video of Jesus:

Jesus then asked the woman where her accusers were. He then said, “hath no man condemned thee?” The woman said, “no man Lord” (John 2:11). Then Jesus said, “neither do I condemn the; go and sin no more” (John 2:11). We can see the love and mercy of Jesus in this video. He is kind and loving when we make mistakes. He is not condemning and angry. That being said, we do have to remember one of the most important parts of this exchange. He told the woman, “Go and sin no more”. After we make mistakes and repent, we must do our very best to “go and sin no more”. That is the only way we will find true peace in our lives - if we strive to follow the Savior, believe in Him and do our best to “go and sin no more”.
