The Resurrection of Jesus

Scripture: John 20:3-18

In this video clip about Jesus we see the resurrection of Jesus. This video is especially popular around Easter time, however, it is inspirational during whatever time of the year it is watched. To follow the story of the narrative of the video, Jesus had died on Friday, and the events we see in the video take place on Sunday morning. Peter and John, two of Jesus’ apostles, had heard that Jesus’ body was not in the tomb, and they raced to see for themselves if His body was gone. John won the race and found Mary Magdalene at the tomb. As they entered, true to the report given by others, Jesus was not in the tomb. However, they saw His burial clothes wrapped together. Still, at this point, they didn’t understand what Jesus had told them about being raised from the dead.

Next, comes the inspiring story of hope that fills us with the Spirit of God - the story of rebirth - of Easter. Mary was sitting by the tomb crying and looked into the sepulchre. Then she saw Jesus, but didn’t know that it was Jesus. “Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master” (John 20:15-16). Jesus then told Mary not to touch Him yet because He had not yet ascended unto the Father.

More About the Resurrection of Jesus:

Although Jesus was half mortal because He was born of Mary (his mortal mother), Jesus was also half God as God was His Father. Since He was half mortal, He had the ability to die. However, since he was the literal Son of God, we know that God had given Jesus power to come back to life (John 5:26). Since Jesus overcame death, all who have ever died will be resurrected. It is a free gift unto all - both good and evil - to anyone who has ever lived on the earth (John 5:29). So, what does resurrection mean? When we die, our spirits and bodies are separated. During the resurrection, they will reunite and our bodies will be in their perfect and proper state (Alma 40:23). We will be immortal and live for eternity. Then if we had faith or believed in Jesus and repented of our sins during our life on earth, we will live with God in eternal happiness. If we were evil, we will have eternal punishment. Before receiving our eternal reward, Jesus will be our judge (John 5:27).
