You've seen them—20-year old men and women in formal dress, walking or riding bikes. Is it a conspiracy, or are Mormon missionaries sent with an inspired message?
By the end of 2012 there were about 82,000 Mormon missionaries world-wide, and the number is rapidly increasing.
Mormon Missionaries Conspiracy?
It is not a conspiracy; Mormon missionaries are men and women of God. They leave their homes for usually around two years, pay their own way, and go to teach the world about Jesus Christ and the peace that comes in following Him. They go to different countries all over the world and spread the gospel in many different languages. After they return from their missions, they start a career, get jobs and have families. Why Do Mormon Missionaries Do What they Do?
These young ambassadors have a strong belief in God and Jesus Christ and want to share it with others and help bring peace to others around the world. They don't get paid, and they don't get to choose where they'll serve. They are called to serve in different regions of the world through inspiration by a prophet of God.
The church they belong to is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (nicknamed the "Mormon Church"). The church sends missionaries to different parts of the world because of the commandment in the Bible: "And he [Jesus] said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15).

Why is Their Church Nicknamed the "Mormon" Church?
In addition to a strong and vital belief in the Bible, they also have another book of scripture called the Book of Mormon. Just as the Bible is a sort of religious history of God's people in Jerusalem, the Book of Mormon is a sort of religious history of the ancient people and prophets in the Americas. The majority of the book was written between 600 BC and 400 AD on gold plates. It was abridged by a prophet named Mormon and then buried in the ground by his son named Moroni around 421 AD. In 1830 it was found by inspiration from God and translated. One of the most important events in the book of Mormon tells about the coming of Jesus Christ to the Americas. When Jesus was in Jerusalem, he told the people, "And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd" (John 10:16). The "other sheep" talked about in the Bible were the people of the Americas.

How Can Missionaries Help You?
First, the missionaries will teach you the gospel of Jesus Christ which can bring peace to your life. The missionaries are also given 4 hours a week in which they can do service for individuals or communities (regardless of their religious beliefs). They do the service because they are ambassadors of peace and want to follow the example of our Savior.
