What is the Holy Ghost?
What is the Holy Ghost? The Holy Ghost is a spirit. He is a member of the Godhead or Holy Trinity. Unlike God and Christ, since he is a spirit, the entire human race can all feel his presence at the same time—similar to the way that billions people on earth can feel the affects of the sun at the same time.
What is the Holy Ghost's Goal or Mission?
- The Holy Ghost helps us to feel that God is our Father and Jesus is our Savior (1 Corinthians 12:3).
- He is our comforter. He comforts us in times of need (John 14:26).
- The Holy Ghost will guide us to the truth (John 16:13).
Who Can Feel the Influence of the Holy Ghost?
Deeper than the question "What is the Holy Ghost?" is the question, "Who can feel the influence of the Holy Ghost?" and "What does it feel like?"
After being baptized, those with the priesthood of God lay their hands on the newly baptized person's head (Acts 8:17-20) and give them the gift of the Holy Ghost. This means that the influence of the Holy Ghost can be felt by the person on a continual basis throughout their life—as long as they are repenting and trying their best to keep the commandments of God.
To answer the question, "What does the Holy Ghost feel like?" we turn to the New Testament scripture in Galatians 5:22-23, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance…"
So, if we hear the word of God, and we feel peace, joy, goodness, and so forth, we will know that what we are hearing is true.
Hopefully that answers your question, "What is the Holy Ghost?"
