Teaching Children Values
If They Aren't Teaching Children Values in School Anymore, Where are They Going to Get Them?
In traditional America 100 years ago, school teachers taught values and had prayers with students. Now, most—if not all—public schools don't teach children values…why? Because it's bad? Many things have changed in our public school system and in society over the past 100 years. Prayers are no longer accepted in schools.
Teaching children values now, more then ever, depends on parents. Children may be taught some values if they attend church regularly with their families, but how much sinks in can be questionable if not backed by the parents in the home.
Is There are Program for Teaching Children Values?
Arguably, the best way to teach children values is to cultivate them in ourselves and teach them to our children by example. Watch out though, if you try to show your kids that you have good values like honesty, then go to work and you aren't quite all the way honest, you children can sense it—they can feel it—they know who you really are.
We don't have to be perfect, but we should do our best to live the values we are trying to teach our children. Children realize that we're not perfect and will give us the benefit of the doubt if they see us continually trying to improve.
Another great thing we can do to teach our children values is by following the Family Home Evening program. A program established by a prophet of God in 1915 to combat decaying values of society. (If they needed it then, how much more do we need it now?)
Finally, there is a religion that focuses on families and building strong family relationships. It is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
