When Was the Baptism of Christ?

In the Bible, Jesus was baptized at the beginning of his ministry at age 30. Two of the important aspects of his baptism is that he knew what he was doing and made the choice to be baptized (he wasn't a baby).

If Jesus wasn't baptized as an infant, and if there is no precedent for infant baptism in the Bible, why are infants baptized? As you think about the answer to that, let's take a look at what Jesus taught about children.

Children and Infants are Innocent and Don't Need Baptism

In Matthew 19:14 it states, "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Children were not baptized in Bible times. Yet, Jesus said of them, "of such is the kingdom of heaven".

Prophet Speaks on Infant Baptism

A prophet of God in ancient America said, "Little children cannot repent; wherefore, it is awful wickedness to deny the pure mercies of God unto them, for they are all alive in him because of his mercy. And he that saith that little children need baptism denieth the mercies of Christ, and setteth at naught the atonement of him and the power of his redemption." (Mormon 8:19-20)

The previous scripture is found in the Book of Mormon–Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the history of the dealings of God with the people of the ancient Americas.
