There are times in all of our lives when we need comfort. Whether we've suffered the loss of a loved one, lost a job, have a wayward child or have challenges with a spouse, we're all in need of the comfort of God at certain times in our lives.

The Lord has promised us comfort in many ways:

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told the people, "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted" (Matthew 5:4).

Jesus also told us,"Come unto me all ye that labor and our heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). This scripture comes with a promise after we first have done our part. Our part is to first "come unto Him." Here are a few ways we can come unto Him so we can find the needed rest:

  • Offer daily prayers from our heart
  • Attend church services
  • Do service for others
  • Read the scriptures of God
    • Here is a good verse of scripture that talks about the power of the scriptures to comfort us: "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope." (Romans 15:4)

The Holy Ghost is the great comforter as indicated in John 14:26: "The Comforter... is the Holy Ghost". As we try to live a good life, the Holy Ghost can help comfort us in times of need.

Comfort Through the Family

Finally, the family can be one of our best sources of comfort, or if there are problems, the family can be a major source of pain and sorrow.
