What is a Miracle?

Miracles are manifestations of divine or spiritual power. There are three conditions that must be met for miracles to happen:

1. They come after prayer
2. There must be a true need
3. There must be faith.

Are There Miracles Today?

Many people and religions believe there are no miracles today. What a sad world it would be if we really believed that God wouldn't help us with our problems by causing small or even large miracles to bless us in times of need.

Here is what scriptures say on the topic:

"For behold, I am God; and I am a God of miracles; and I will show unto the world that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and I work not among the children of men save it be according to their faith." (2 Nephi 27:23)

If God is the same yesterday, today and forever, why would he cause miracles to happen in ancient times and then not help us in modern times when, arguably, we may need miracles even more than ever?

Another scripture states:

"...has the day of miracles ceased? Or have angels ceased to appear unto the children of men? Or has he withheld the power of the Holy Ghost from them? Or will he, so long as time shall last, or the earth shall stand, or there shall be one man upon the face thereof to be saved?

Behold I say unto you, Nay; for it is by faith that miracles are wrought; and it is by faith that angels appear and minister unto men; wherefore, if these things have ceased wo be unto the children of men, for it is because of unbelief, and all is vain." (Moroni 7:35-37)

How are Miracles, Especially Healings, Performed?

Luke 4:40:

"Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them." (emphasis added)

Acts 28:8:

"And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him." (emphasis added)

As you can see by these two scriptures from the Bible, many healings are performed by the laying on of hands.

The power to heal was given by the Lord as stated in the Bible (Matthew 10:1):

"And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness all manner of disease."

This power which Jesus gave to heal is called the priesthood:

"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood" (1 Peter 2:9)

Can People Heal and be Healed Today?

As in ancient times, the power of the priesthood has been restored to the earth today by heavenly messengers. There are individuals who hold the power of the priesthood of God including the power to heal others according to their faith or belief in Jesus Christ.
